Funding and Planning for Water Storage Tanks and Water Systems

J&DE structural engineers and designers work closely with city managers and communities to evaluate their needs. First, the structural engineers will determine what the needs of the surrounding communities are. The civil engineers, structural engineers and designers will evaluate:

• the current pipe network system
• the current pressure zones and potential system risks
• if the water pressure is currently too low
• if the water pressure is currently too high
• if the community has, or is projected to grow substantially within a specified time and if an increased storage capacity is needed
• what repairs have been done in the past
• if the current water storage tank can be upgraded or if it needs to be replaced chlorination needs and current delivery systems

After all of the information and inspections on the current water storage tank system has been evaluated by J&DE’s highly skilled structural engineers, civil engineers and designers, they will meet with the City manager and other officials to explain what is needed and present options. J&DE will then help the City find the funding necessary for the water storage tank system – whether it is to repair the existing water tank or to replace the old with a new water storage tank.

The project manager also monitors the project making sure that the highest quality products are used and installed per plans drawn up by the structural engineers and designers and that the manufacturer’s specifications are strictly adhered to.

The Jones & DeMille Engineering Materials Testing Lab, a fully certified lab with AASTHO, ASTM and CCRL certifications, will also test the soils that the water tanks will be built on to make sure that the foundation of the water storage tank is solid and won’t have problems in the future. It will also test the reinforced concrete used to build the water storage tanks system to make sure that the proper concrete mix is used so that the water storage tank will be structurally solid for years to come, just as the structural engineer designed it.
